- Read Matthew 5:13 aloud to the class: "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot."
- Explain in simple terms what the verse means.

- Ask the students why they think Jesus called His followers the 'salt of the earth.'
- Discuss the following points:
